My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
Thanks for pardoning Marcus Garvey (MMG2). It’s fitting on MLK, Jr. Day’s Eve to bring some recognition to MMG2 as “the first man of color in the history of the United States to lead and develop a mass movement… (&) make the Negro feel he was somebody.” I just realized that Jesse Jackson’s favorite poem, “I am Somebody” may have been inspired by that quote of MLK’s.
How are things in North Charleston today? I suspect that at this very moment you are having breakfast with Rep. Jim Clyburn, reminiscing about the past four years. I’m sure you’ll thank him for telling NBC you “will go down as one of the greatest presidents we’ve had.” He noted parallels between you & 33 & 39, calling you, “people who break with the status quo.”
I wish I could be in the pews of the Royal Missionary Baptist Church with you this AM to hear Reverend Doctor Isaac Holt Jr. leading his parishioners in worship. I will try to watch on-line.
As you pray, you might consider my HX for the day, #15, humility, which suggests that “the most successful people are those who know how to bring situations into balance by reducing those who are too inflated & adding to those who are too minimized. Such a person strives for balanced & stable relationships, not power over others.”
I have witnessed you struggling with this over the past four years. You got legislation passed by recognizing that it wasn’t all about you, but your approach to the election suggested a more arrogant mindset. 45/47 has much more work to do in this department than you do, so don’t feel bad.
Of course, I have to remind you to consider Burma. You could give a shout out to the ASEAN foreign ministers who “called on the warring sides in member nation Myanmar to stop the fighting & told its representative to allow unhindered humanitarian access.”
As usual I have to get going so will be ending my writing session while I still have topics I could discuss with you. Isn’t that the way of the world? Unfinished business, unspoken sentiments, interrupted reveries, all reminders that God is Change & permanence is an illusion.
BYBS,
RCA
PS – It’s a relief to see that the ceasefire is holding.
