My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            We will both be attending ceremonies this PM. What fun!

The Chancellor & Provost will be at my Dean’s thing, so I will need to be on my best behavior. Who is going to be at your event announcing the nomination of General Charles Q. Brown, Jr. to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff? I’m happy to see that CQ puts an emphasis on racial justice. It will be great to have the Pentagon’s 2 top jobs filled by African Americans.

            Have you heard of the Fierce Madres? How about Voices for a Safer Tennessee? Both are groups of women working to improve gun safety laws. The Fierce Madres are from Uvalde. You might want to invite them & the Here 4 the Kids crew to the WH to talk strategy. Educating the country about the racist origins of the 2nd Amendment could be part of the plan.

            Do you think you have “cognitive endurance” &  “existential clarity?” According to Molly Worthen opining in today’s NYT, that’s what college students should develop by having monastic experiences. She says, “The point of college is to help students become independent humans who can choose the gods they serve & the rules they follow, rather than allowing someone else to choose for them.” She has a point, don’t you think? 

            Do you ever tune into VOA? Today they have a report on the horrendous experiences being described by the Burmese political prisoners recently released by the junta. They are speaking up on behalf of their “comrades, still behind bars & living in darkness.” Please listen to their stories & do what you can to help.

 PS – Just found this really bad news! Target is removing some LGBTQ-themed merchandise after threatening behavior by some customers ahead of Pride Month in June. Thoughts?
