My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
Thanks for participating in Sandra Day O’Connor’s funeral yesterday. I appreciated your declaration that “[Americans] must see themselves not as enemies, but as partners in the great work of deciding our collective destiny.” Let’s plan to follow SDO’s admonition to “help others along the way.”
Let’s also try to do something new each day. Yesterday, I made a new kind of cookie, almond-oat lace. They are more candy than cookie, but since we have not yet operationalized our definition of cookie, we’ll use that designation provided by Bon Appetit in 2011.
You are lucky. You do something new almost every day. Your new thing today will be meeting Rashawn Spivey, plumber extraordinaire & entrepreneur, who does all kinds of things including removing lead pipes. I’m eager to hear his welcome to MKE’s Black Chamber of Commerce speech.
Did you know that MKE is the most segregated city in America? The youth at Leaders Igniting Transformation (LIT) find that troubling. In their letters to you they suggest you embrace immigration, fix the rigged justice system, address climate change & most importantly, amplify their voices. Getting the votes of the BIPOC youth will require you to step up your game. Are you up for that?
Will Giannis Antetokounmpo (GSUA) be at today’s event? Everyone in MKE loves him, especially the refugee communities, including the Karen & Rohingya from Burma. Getting GSUA’s endorsement would attract all kinds of voters & speaking with him would help you understand the plight of folks without documents. According to the UN the Rohingya are the most persecuted minority in the world. Please seek them out while in MKE to shine a light on their challenges.
BYBS,
