My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
“One day, an army of furious older women will take over the world & I want to be there, right at the front.” Donna Ashworth penned that line. She has not caught the attention of literary critics, but I like her ideas. “Wild Hope” is her latest offering.
I happened upon her work as I read about Sandra Day O’Connor’s funeral today. Her life sparked my imagination, so I googled, “old women rule the world.” I appreciated Justice Sotomayor comments, “the nation was well-served by the steady hand & intellect of a justice who never lost sight of how the law affected ordinary people.” Don’t you love that SDO gave T-shirts to children naming them her ‘grandclerks?’” I think SDO would have made a good POTUS.
In the absence of someone like SDO, we need you to reach out to more voters! The media has recently focused attention on rural Black folks in GA & their disillusionment with your performance. Mara Gay writes in the NYT of her visits to places like Major’s Barber & Beauty Shop where customers told her about their political views. She concludes, “these voters, some of the poorest in the country, played a key role in denying Mr. Trump a second term & preserving American democracy…They have seen & heard nothing to suggest that the Democratic Party understands their problems, is committed to improving their lives or even cares about them at all.” Best show them some love.
In other news, the NYT reports that the Burmese junta is abducting young men off the street to fill its ranks. Reluctant soldiers do not make good combatants so this strategy will eventually fail. In the meantime, families are fearful their sons will disappear. Another reminder that WINTA!!!
BYBS,
