My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
Glory, Glory, the heat spell has broken. Temps are back to normal. Life goes on.
That’s a fitting theme for the day. Life goes on – we endure an assault on the World Trade Center, pick up the pieces & keep moving forward. The Queen dies, her fans cry & the London buses keep running along. Crazy leaders start wars for no good reason & the world figures out a work around. As you said in your speech yesterday, “we regain the Light by reaching out,” & so we shall.
How fitting that it was a drizzly day yesterday when you made your remarks at the Pentagon. I hope the nation was listening when you reminded us that “The character of (our nation includes) sacrifice and love, of generosity and grace, of strength and resilience.”
As you announce your “Cancer Moonshot” in Boston today, I hope you celebrate the people who figure out how to live with cancer & live life to the fullest despite their haunting diagnosis. I am grateful to you for devoting resources to improving health & hope that the initiative includes ample attention to prevention.
Please give a shout out to the activists in Burma. The people of Burma want to be seen & heard. According to Myanmar Now, they’ve suffered from “minor but dispiriting international measures or mistakes… that sap the morale of beleaguered communities in and outside Myanmar (including 1) a joint letter signed by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International to “Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing;” (2) UN Food and Agriculture Organisation representative Yuka Makino presenting her credentials to the military council’s foreign minister; and (3) UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs country head David Carden signing a Letter of Agreement with a junta ministry. When the UN treats the junta as legitimate, it can elevate their status. Please do what you can to delegitimize the junta & recognize the NUG.
BYBS,
PS – I am heading for to Yosemite tomorrow, so you won’t hear from me for a couple of days.
