6/29/22 (lost & found)
June 30, 2022
My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
My computer had an issue yesterday, so I lost the letter that I wrote to you. I recall writing something about the boy scouts of Troops 73 & 12 & the way they jumped into action to “help other people at all times” when their train derailed. I encouraged you to invite them to the WH! Especially, Eli Skrypczak, who provided 1st aid to the driver of the truck that the train hit. Even though he did what he could, the man died at the scene. That’s hard for 15-year-old to process.
In yesterday’s letter, I also gave you a hard time about how you teased the King of Spain that you both had “married up.” This may be true of you, but Queen Letizia is a commoner, so not only was the joke not funny, it was not valid. Given the superior manners of all Spaniards I suspect that the King was offended by your statement, but too polite to correct you. I suggest that you replace that old joke with the new observation, “we sure are lucky to have such wonderful wives.” It expresses the same sentiment without signaling a class hierarchy. It may not be funny, but it’s a lovely thought.
Finally, yesterday’s letter also included the usual attention to Burma. I requested you discuss the situation there with your NATO buddies. Please let me know if you were able to do that.
BYBS,
