My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            How are things in Europe? Did you know that folks in India are excited that you made a special effort to warmly greet PM Modi (NDM) yesterday? Some find it surprising that you reached out  to a guy whose party just got in trouble with the Muslim nations for denigrating the prophet, Muhammad. They point out that it took him far too long to fire his spokesperson, Nupur Sharma. His critics say, “India under Modi, is coming across as a petty, vindictive nation that seeks pleasure in humiliating the oppressed and the less privileged.” That sounds way too familiar!

            I hope you have some smart folks in your admin who can help you understand world finance. According to the Hill, China wants to end the “demand for dollar-denominated assets worldwide” and has a “long-run desire to supplant the U.S. dollar-centric post-WWII global monetary order.” They suggest, “strengthening U.S. alliances with emerging powers (like India and Brazil) and establishing closer ties with the African continent will be essential for the West as we enter a new era of geopolitical competition.” I worry that this is complicated stuff which most Americans can’t wrap their heads around. It seems important, though, so I hope you’ve got our best minds on it. This concern may explain why you are being friendly to NDM.

            Speaking of international trade, news from the Irrawaddy indicates that “the son of Myanmar junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing is planning to import oil from Russia.” Burma has an electricity & energy crisis so it’s not surprising. Just another indicator of the scope of the corruption.

            Please keep Burma on your mind as you head to Madrid for the G20 meeting.
