My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
How is Las Vegas? I hope to go there in a couple of days, enroute to my daughter’s nuptials in Zion National Park (ZNP). My husband’s condition has changed so we need to make sure he can spend the night alone before I commit to the plan. With luck, the health care system will deliver on its promise of “Express Care” where folks can have a virtual visit with a medical professional to assess the gravity of their situation. My initial attempt to access this offering via the internet was stymied. We’ll see if I have more success on the phone. Please wave your POTUS wand & get the health care system to deliver on its promises.
My magical moment of the day is the realization that ZNP has a Jewish connotation. Do you know how it got its name? Maybe I’ll find out while I’m there.
In any case, I was just reading about Truman’s 1948 election because you alluded to it in your remarks to the NAACP yesterday when you used that wonderful quote from 33 about never giving anyone hell, just telling the truth so they thought it was hell. Apparently, his position on Palestine was an issue in 1948 which provides another parallel between you & him.
33’s reflection on the situation sounded like it could have come from you, especially the part when he said, “the people you helped most are the ones that get most angry with you. Both of them were against me … but as president of the United States I paid no attention to them, carried out what I thought was right.”
That kind of conviction may be necessary in a leader, but I wonder when that kind of single-mindedness becomes blind arrogance. I encourage you to consult with your spiritual guides to avoid this possibility.
News of Burma includes the discouraging development that the junta’s conscripts are heading to conflict zones & the encouraging progress that some Karen refugees from the camps are heading to the USA for resettlement. Do you happen to know where they are going?
