My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            When you were in Normandy, did you see the Longest Yarn exhibit of 80 panels of DDay scenes knitted & crocheted by crafters from around the world? It’s amazing that they were able to make something so horrific look cute. Perhaps you could call the folks at the DDay museum & ask them to host an exhibition of the 80 meter long tapestry.

            I hope you were able to thoroughly enjoy your dinner last night! According to the NYT, you dined “beneath golden caryatids” on  “a light salad that turned plates into minor works of art” & “slivers of carrots of various colors (that) had been curled into the likeness of a rose.” Ooh, La, La!

            Apparently, EJMFM is a “gourmet, who has a deep understanding of gastronomy, of its pleasures, but also its economic importance for France.” He reminds me of my governor.

            I loved that your remarks at Point du Hoc included the observation that “democracy begins with each of us …when one person decides there’s something more important than themselves” I shared that quote with my students & will let you know if any of them mention it at their oral final.

            SPOW, on my bike ride to yesterday’s sessions I encountered a tortured soul who was having a psychotic break. She stole my sunglasses, threatened to push me into the street & wanted me to give her a ride on my bike to the Coop. She also said several X-rated things. She answered affirmatively, when asked if she wanted me to call the police, so I did. Upon the advice of the dispatcher, as soon as she returned my sunglasses, I left. I felt ill equipped to be the reassuring presence she so badly needed. When I later followed up with the police officer who intercepted her, I was not convinced he was successful either. What are you doing to build a better system to help folks in this kind of distress?

            As you partied in Paris, I hope you remembered to mention Burma to EJMFM.
