My Dear POTUS, JRB,
Have you heard about the improvements to your “contact the White House” website? My favorite is the specification of how many characters are left in the text box. I frequently bump up against the 2000-character limit. My computer counts things differently than yours, so, in the past, I’ve had to guess as I whittle away at my text to fit in the box, but now I don’t have to anymore! Thanks to the limit, I’ve learned to write condensed missives.
I had a conversation with 2 of my undergrads on Friday. They’ve had it with us old folks. One had observed a tyrannical 72-year-old teacher brutalizing her students. The other described teaching as taking one’s flame to light many new candles, but eventually the flame dies out. They talked of the tug between old & new & began to talk about politicians, mentioning Di Fi & NPP by name. Are our flames dying out?
Changing the topic (CTT), do you know Ophir Falk? Is he trustworthy? My sources indicate he is a Sr. advisor to Bibi & told the UK Sun News that they’re moving forward with your 3-phase ceasefire deal with the caveat of working out the details. I hope that perfection does not become the enemy of the good, & things can settle down in Gaza.
Have you come up with something similar for Burma? If you can help forge a diplomatic resolution in the Middle East, certainly you can do the same in Asia.
Are you familiar with the 62 paintings of the Peaceable Kingdom by Friend Edward Hicks (EH)? They are depictions of Isaiah 11:6–9 where the wolf dwells with the lamb. EH was using his art to reconcile a great deal of internal conflict. Scholars say he was attempting to “to tease out the tension between peace on earth & the violence & divisiveness of man.” It’s a perennial struggle. Finding creative outlets can help us maintain energy to deal with the dissonance & keeping up our efforts to forge peace where we can.
Enjoy your time at the beach on this gorgeous Sunday!
BYBS,
