My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
How are things back in DC? Will you be able to rest after your whirlwind travels? According to my news sources, the LA event raised a record amount of $$. It’s too bad that BHO took your hand as you walked off the stage at the Peacock Theater drowning out your message about the dangers of 45’s re-election.
Did the topic of immigration come up in your conversation with Jimmy Kimmel (JCK) & BHO? As you work on your message & policy regarding that issue, you might consult with Rep Yadira Caraveo (CO-8). As she tries to hold onto her seat in a newly formed district that’s 35% Hispanic, she’s developed her own immigration bill that allocate $1.4 billion for FEMA to help shelter migrants & fund local hospitals impacted by the influx of patients & increase resources for law enforcement to reduce the number of human trafficking victims. You should invite her to the WH to talk more about this.
Did JCK ask about China? I am stumped about what we should do to keep the peace with them & promote human rights. I loved my Chinese international students this quarter. Their biggest concern was how competitive their educational system is. They emphasized that grades are all that matter, & many students have little hope of obtaining a “good job” because so many people are vying for positions. While they acknowledged they did not have freedom of speech, they seemed to accept it. I’m not convinced we need to fear the rise of China.
Today’s Burma coverage includes a piece by Edith Mirante, a scholar who warns that referring to the conflict there as a “forgotten war/conflict/revolution” is “a tiresome journalism cliché.” She likens it to Victorian ethnographers’ use of “vanishing peoples” & suggests it “can become a self-fulfilling terminology.” Please mention your attention to Burma to show you care.
BYBS,
RCA
