JRB,
Did you have fun last PM at the State Dinner for Kenya’s President William Ruto (WKSAR)? It’s nice that BHO could join. Did Michelle come with him?
Miracles are real! Our friend, EB recited that in celebration of small surprises. He learned it as a kid from the televangelists who flooded the airwaves in NC, shouting it so frequently that lives on in our family repertoire of funny sayings.
The incantation comes to mind this AM as I see the news in the VOA that “Myanmar refugees in Thailand (will) start interviews for US resettlement!” I have so many questions about that, but I am in somewhat of a hurry, so they’ll have to wait. Suffice it to say, I am thrilled.
Speaking of miracles, did you see the news from the Vatican that Pope Francis is naming ‘God’s Influencer,’ Carlo Acutis (CA), a saint? His life’s plan was to “always be close to Jesus.” He was such a special kid, learning to code & publishing his investigations of the Eucharistic miracles on line, that he developed a huge following before his death of leukemia at age 15 in 2006. According to the WP, in 2020, a Brazilian boy was allegedly healed from a pancreatic birth defect after his mother prayed to Acutis. That was miracle #1. The 2nd involved another praying mom & happened in 2022.
The WP also noted that “Agbonkhianmeghe Orobator (AO), dean of the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University, said he was ‘delighted by the news of CA’s canonization,’ noting that he recently visited a diocese where young people go on pilgrimage & carry out community service in honor of CA.”
BTW, you should have invited AO to the WH. He wants to “bring some coherence to the chaos & crises prevalent in our world today, like migration, intolerance, inequality, poverty, violence, wars & climate change.” He might have some ideas for WKSAR.
I am uplifted by this news of miracles so will close by hoping that we’ll have another one involving Gaza, Burma, Ukraine or the Sudan.
BYBS,
