My dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
It’s over. We’re disappointed. As the CSM says, “the big question is what happens next.”
You will navigate a distasteful transition at the WH. I will navigate outraged friends. We know worry & apprehension eats away at us, robbing us of joy & vitality. My challenge is to recast the anxiety coming my way so the energy fueling it can become constructive rather than destructive. Citing MLK’s quote, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that,” may be helpful.
I am prepared to face 45’s next presidency with my usual vigilance, observe what he is doing & saying, looking for that of God in him & reminding him when he has unleashed his demons.
I didn’t watch the coverage with my neighbors last night. I did not want to relive 2016 when a birthday party turned into a wake. Instead, I watched the Aggies play basketball with the Huskies. The lead changes provided just enough suspense to make the game interesting.
Any suggestions for how to address this inflection point in my seminar today? I don’t want to spend the whole time bemoaning our situation but do want to acknowledge its effect.
On a brighter note, congrats on Naomi’s announcement of her pregnancy. Your first great-grandchild will bring you some joy.
Speaking of off-spring, I was surprised to see that Barron (BWT) is now 6’7”. 45 says it’s because he only ate his grandmother’s cooking. Do you know if BWT will live in the WH this time around?
Back to big questions, the Irrawaddy asks one today, specifically, “Does China trust Min Aung Hlaing? It points out, “Chinese leaders do not believe MAH is competent & doubt his leadership & ability to govern the country (sounds familiar).” It’ll be interesting to see if MAH gets anything from his visit to Kunming to attend the Greater Mekong Subregion Summit.
Folks need us to hold our centers & show that adverse conditions will not defeat us.
BYBS,
