My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
Have you heard of Charles Shay? I just learned about him this morning when reading about the D-Day commemoration in Normandy. He, along with several other vets, were on Omaha Beach yesterday. All are exceptional for having survived such a brutal battle & then living such long lives. Charles is extra-exceptional, because he is a Penobscot Native American from Indian Island, Maine.
The people of France are so grateful to him for liberating their country that they awarded him the Legion d’Honneur in 2007 & erected a turtle statue in his name. He was a medic & dodged bullets to rescue many wounded soldiers & give comfort to those who had fatal wounds.
I encourage you to give him a shoutout on June 21, Native American Veterans Day in ME. They chose that day because it’s the anniversary of the day the Penobscot tribe, along with the other 3 tribes of the Wabanaki Confederacy, joined the American Revolution in 1775. CS is a direct descendent of Chief Joseph Orono, who fought with General Washington’s troops. CS has had a life a service & deserves to be uplifted for his courage, humility & grace.
As you are shining your POTUS spotlight on things, please shine it on Myanmar junta’s pending ‘cold blooded assassination’ of the activists I told you about on 6/4.
I have to go to a “retreat” which is another word for “a day of meetings.” I did not have time to meditate this AM so I hope I can keep my cool.
BYBS,
