My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            Beware! Reveling at the WH on 5/5 is in questionable taste!  In 2014, the Latino Rebels website called it “hispandering.” They noted that  a tweet emanated from “@La Casa Blanca NARA” saying, “Feliz Cinco de Mayo! El Presidente espera con ilusión la celebración de esta noche” but a similar tweet did not appear on “@White House” for the English speaking monolinguals. As you are well aware, it will take more than a party to get the Latinx vote so your event this evening with Mrs. Beatriz Gutiérrez Mueller de López Obrador might not be the best idea.

I am always queasy about Cinco de Mayo because so many college kids do offensive things on this day. I won’t go into the numerous incidents that have led some schools to ban 5/5 parties. As you know, the “holiday” was popularized by Mexican-Americans as a celebration of their heritage, much like St. Patty’s Day. Due to heavy advertising by the beverage alcohol industry, 5/5 is now a time to consume Dos Xs, tequila and Mexican food. Are you sure you want to promote that kind of thing?

            In my opinion, yesterday’s Team USA event is a much more appropriate WH occasion. The NYT reported that there were 600 Olympians there, including monobobber, Kaillie Humphries who recently defected from Canada to escape brutal coaches. She personifies your sentiments, “There’s no quit in America.” I hope she was one of the athletes that you took a selfie with.

            Amidst all the gaiety at the WH, please continue to monitor the situation in Myanmar. Today’s BBC has a heart wrenching video about the refugees on the Indian border who cross the Tiau River to escape the civil war. Many of them are injured soldiers who are filmed telling of the horrors visited upon their family members. I am holding them in the Light & hope you will pray for them.
