My dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            It’s hard to decide how to process events in the world today when the crab trees burst into bloom & the birds sing. It is tempting to turn away from the news & rejoice in the beauty of spring.

            That feels selfish. So, I read the news & quickly get overwhelmed as I try to make sense of an insane situation. Today, VVP is talking about putting his nuclear force on high alert & various experts are saying the ICBM are always at the ready so there’s really no such thing as high alert. Some think VVP is losing his grasp on reality with Hans M. Kristensen, the director of the Nuclear Information Project at the Federation of American Scientists going so far as to call it “madman brinksmanship.”

We do know that people are dying, including 14 children, refugees are leaving & citizens around the world are grieving. I fear that, like the generals in Myanmar, VVP is putting himself in an untenable situation, fighting a battle he cannot win, but backing down now would mean losing face.

I feel compelled to remind you that WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER. Not in Ukraine, not in Myanmar, not anywhere. Let’s put all of our creative minds on this problem to provide these misguided men with a graceful exit.
