My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
It looks like the state dinner for the Macrons was a success. Vanessa Friedman at the NYT approved of Jill’s attire, but wishes Jill talked up her choice of designer. VF suggested, “fashion is simply another tool of communication & soft power & how you dress for a state dinner is potentially a useful teachable moment.” Given that sentiment, I wish Jill had recycled a dress. The Smithsonian has 3 of Jackie O’s gowns or she could find one of Nancy Regan’s outfits somewhere. Going vintage might further popularize that trend which would be great for the environment.
Speaking of which, please help me understand WHY you are flying to Boston for a few hours???? Isn’t it ironic that you are greeting Prince William as he awards entrepreneurs with Earthshot $$ prizes for nature conservation & protection, air quality, ocean revival, waste-free living & climate action when you are spewing more CO2 & pollution into the atmosphere by flying up there? If you felt you just had to go, why not take the train?
While we are talking about trains, I’m afraid you lost some points by demanding an end to the rail strike. Hamilton Nolan’s column in today’s G wrote, “Biden is very old and not very popular. He has been a friend to unions, yes, but if he goes against them on the biggest fight of all, how much of a friend is he, really?” Perhaps you can win a few points back by supporting the UC students in their strike.
Did you see that the junta sentenced several young men to death on Wed? The Student Union of Dagon University asks that you “take all possible measures to prevent the Military Council from imposing arbitrary capital punishment on Myanmar students and citizens.” Please publicly acknowledge your awareness of this situation & your desire to help.
BYBS,
RCA
