My dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
What are the chances that the day you plan to visit Pittsburgh to talk about infrastructure, one of their bridges will collapse? Fortunately, no one was killed. Folks are wondering if the bus crossing the bridge at the time was too heavy & neighbors are freaking out because they had no idea the bridge was so unstable. Apparently, Allegheny is home to more structurally deficient bridges than any other county in the country. Let’s get busy on this repair effort.
I am excited to learn about all of these fabulous, brilliant Black women who could be our next SCOTUS justice. The G had info about 7 possible nominees & the WP featured Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, calling her a “favorite.” Don’t you love her statement in her ruling about one of DJT’s cases that “the primary takeaway from the past 250 years of recorded American history is that Presidents are not kings?”
The WP suggests that her work defending Gitmo detainees could be a negative, but I hope we all understand that our legal system rests on the idea that everyone has a right to legal defense. Her experience as Stephen Breyer’s clerk may have instilled in her his optimistic belief that judges must be impartial. Fingers crossed this nomination process does not get ugly!
Today’s Economist warns, “Myanmar’s grinding conflict is at risk of being forgotten.” Please don’t let that happen.
I am heading off to SE NM to visit some of nature’s wonders so you may not be hearing from for a few days. Let’s both stay healthy.
BYBS,
