My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

When I flew into SMF last night, my reverie upon returning from a relaxing vacation was ruined when I saw the bright flames of the Tamarak fire out my window. My heart sank & my eyes welled up. Today’s NYT depressed me even further warning that smoke is engulfing the nation. I had to accept my part in climate change as my flight contributed 450 kg of CO2 to the atmosphere. I’m not sure how to think about that, but I know I shouldn’t fly, but it sure is hard not to.

It’s been 10 days since my last letter. Did any of your interns notice? I have no idea how many letters you receive, so it’s hard for me to guess if the sudden cessation of my letters was noted. I didn’t write to you because I was in a lovely place with 9 dear old friends without access to the internet. It was bliss. Fortunately, the world managed to function without my vigilant attention, thanks in part to your restrained leadership.

Jennifer Rubin noted in today’s edition of the WP that “restraint is an underappreciated quality in a president.” Kudos to you for taking your time to do things right & refraining from saying mean things about your opponents.

Are you ready for your town hall at Mount St. Joseph’s tonight? I’m sure you are aware that the Sisters of Charity are excited to show off their school during its Jubilee Celebration, but the Right to Life Catholics of the Cincinnati area think they shouldn’t be hosting the "most pro-abortion president in U.S. history." I hope your team has come up with a gracious response should someone in the audience bring this up.

I’m sure you heard that U Nyan Win died in Myanmar of CV that he caught in prison. The generals are preventing folks like him from getting oxygen. We can’t tolerate that level of cruelty. Please make sure that Chevron stops doing business there.

            Enjoy your trip today,
