How was your Thanksgiving dinner? How did the coconut cream pie turn out? All 4 of our pies were great! I had slivers of the various pies cooked by the 24-year-olds in attendance. I was the only one eating my low-carb option, so there’s still plenty of my high-protein pumpkin/pecan concoction for the rest of the weekend.
Did you find a nice present for Jill yesterday? I don’t mind receiving a gift now & then, but my pleasure in procuring them was dashed when my husband was critical of the belt, shirt & camping lantern I got him on a Geary Ave shopping spree for his 30th birthday. I still owe my nieces wedding presents from several years ago
I am sorry to hear about Omicron (OM). Just when we thought we were finished with CV, we’ve got another variant to worry about. I’m sure you have heard that we need to pay attention to 3 things – transmissibility, severity & “immune escape.” The South African situation suggests it’s very contagious, but it could just be a surge of cases. They’ve got a low vaccination rate there, so it’s hard to tell what it will do when it gets here. Some speculate OM might have evolved inside the body of someone with HIV so that the spike protein could mutate to become unrecognizable to CV tests. According to Dr. Jha, your TO DO list should include A) support research on OM, B) ramp up genomic surveillance, C) require Moderna & Pfizer to develop OM specific vax & D) get people in Africa vaxed. The jury is out on whether a travel ban is going to do any good.
You & I know that it’s a political maneuver, like dipping into the oil reserve, gestures to show you are paying attention. Speaking of which, please make such a gesture to the people of Myanmar. Their resolve to resist the junta is impressive, so please, let them know we care!!!
I learned today that the villagers of YinMarPin protest almost every day in the shadow of the giant Buddha that stands above their community in central Burma. That takes courage & deserves some recognition.
