Friend DJT,
Did you enjoy your golf game with Lindsay Graham (LOG) yesterday? Is your game rusty? I don’t know about you but my first game of golf after a hiatus is usually pretty good. I’m not thinking too hard and my swing is natural. I forgive myself for the lousy shots because I am out of practice. The next game is when things get ugly. When I send a ball into the trees, I start to doubt myself and my shots get worse and worse. The frustration makes me tense up so my swing is short and the ball doesn’t go very far. That’s why I don’t play much golf. I hope that didn’t happen to you yesterday.
How is your friendship with LOG these days? David Von Drehle (DVD) opined in the WP that you don’t have the same sway over him that you used to. DVD noted that once LOG won his primary with 70% of the vote, LOG didn’t have to fear you anymore. I’m not sure that LOG has ever been afraid of you. Like me, he’s trying to give you the benefit of the doubt and keeps encouraging you to be your best self. I hope you will listen to his suggestions about the H1-B visas. South Carolina hospitals and universities need highly trained STEM workers right now so it would be a good idea to hold off on denying doctors and researchers work permits.
I was troubled to see the video of Mark and Patricia McCloskey waving their guns at protestors in St Louis, and even more troubled that the Mayor, Lyda Krewson, made the mistake of reading the names & addresses of citizens who were suggesting changes to the city budget. DVD noted in his piece that intimidation doesn’t work for long. I hope you will encourage the privileged folk of St Louis to consider other approaches to getting along with their neighbors.
HYITL,
