My dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
Thank you for delivering a Memorial Day speech which honored the fallen and did not stray into politics. It was quite presidential and appropriate to our moment. I especially liked the part where you spoke about the Eggers family and how Army Lt. Col. Rebecca raised her two sons after her husband, Daniel, died in Afghanistan. It’s encouraging to see that folks can get through that kind of loss and continue to embrace life. The story of twin brothers Jim & Jack Krebs was moving as well. I can only imagine how hard it to have to return home to your mom without your twin. I’m sure that Jim spent his 94-years experiencing survivor’s guilt. The only thing that would have made your speech better is if you had worn a mask before & after.
I haven’t seen you tweet about your concerns about the effigy of KY Gov. Andy Beshear. It’s particularly troubling that the perpetrators used the phrase, “Sic Semper Tyrannis” which Booth shouted after shooting Lincoln & Timothy McVeigh had on his T-shirt when he bombed the federal building. I look forward to your condemnation of this terrorist incident.
I have to make this short because I have several meetings today, including meeting with my 5th graders. Those meetings remind me that Zoom is not a replacement for the classroom, especially for students with special needs. We do our best but it pales in comparison with what we can accomplish face-to-face. I look forward to the day that we can safely convene together. I know you do, too.
HYITL,
