My Friend DJT,
I enjoyed seeing you and your buddies shoveling dirt with those fancy golden shovels at your Earth Day event yesterday. It’s too bad you only could have one dig. Moving soil is a great way to expend energy. Like all kinds of weight lifting, it helps you sleep better, too, and as Karen Pence would tell you, gardening is great for your mental health.
Speaking of Karen, it was nice of you to give her a moment to speak about the importance of mental health. The PREVENT program she’s heading up is a step in the right direction. I hope she continues to educate herself so she can convey the profound challenges that chronically depressed people face. In her recent interview with USA Today, she made it sound like treating mental illness is easy. A more nuanced message with a bit of science will be more compelling.
I’m excited about the 1 trillion tree campaign! Just remember, it’s not enough to plant the trees, we have to take care of them, too. Maybe you heard that Turkey learned that the hard way. Last Nov. they planted 11 million saplings in a day & most of them are already dead. Let’s make sure we don’t repeat their mistakes by determining the right kind of trees to plant, & planting them at the wrong time of year, so they get enough water. According to World Resources Institute it will take the US $4 billion a year to finish the campaign within 20 years. It’s great that you took the first step in that effort yesterday.
Please keep in mind that saving the trees we already have needs to be part of the plan so please give your buddy in Brazil a call & get him on board.
Please let me know what kind of maple you planted – probably a Red Maple, but it could be an Armstrong, Sugar or Brandywine. In any case, I hope you gave it a little hug J
HYITL,
