My dear friend and president, DJT,
I am bereft today, as I am sure you are, too. 2 mass shootings in 2 days suggests something more than random violence going on. We are seeing the expression of suffering, hatred and deep loneliness. As these young angry men engage in their wretched acts of terrorism, their desperation is too much for us to fathom so we search for other explanations, other ways to convince ourselves that these acts are uncommon. I am now worried that we are going to see one of these shootings every day. My dear friend, DJT, it's time to outlaw high capacity rifles. Just do it! Please!!!
The Dayton shooting feels more personal to me because I was in Dayton in October, 2018, and had a beer at Branch and Bone Artisan Ales on the edge of the Historic Oregon District not too far from the Ned Pepper Bar where last night's shooting took place. Dayton struck me as a small city trying its best to be hip. They've got a nice river and lots of single family homes, but not quite enough young folk to create the energy of a city like San Francisco. We've got the same issue in Sacto. Dayton's Mayor, Nan Whaley, has developed a plan to attract high skilled immigrants to fuel the economy. Given all that Dayton has been through, with the opioid epidemic, the terrible tornadoes in May and now this shooting, I hope you'll give Nan some help with her immigration idea. It's the least you can do.
Please go to church today and pray for the strength to stand up to the NRA and stop these killings.
Best,
RCA
