My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
I just realized I missed the Ides of March. Too bad! I find that story intriguing & would like the chance to reflect on its implication for us in 2025. Maybe, I’ll remember next year.
Today I am thinking about vigils & how this one keeps taking on new shapes. By this one, I mean these letters, which constitute my personal attempt to keep a close eye on you & let you know that you are loved. I do this for my own sanity, as much as anything else, but perhaps the good vibes that I send in your direction give you pause when advisors like Steve Bannon & Stephen Miller, suggest another misguided plan.
Speaking of misguided plans, whose idea was it to detain Jeanette Vizguerra (JV)? As Gov. Jared Polis notes she does NOT have a history of violence & has not been arrested for any criminal activity. She’s been doing everything she can to get permanent residency so her 4 American born children can rest assured that their mom will always be there for them.
She’s got a lot of F(f)riends, from her last go around with your ICE efforts, when she spent 3 years in the sanctuaries of Denver's First Unitarian Society & First Baptist Church. As you know, TIME put her on the 100 most influential people in 2017. Whoever had the idea to put her behind bars needs to be fired.
I am averse to firing people, but in this case, the person who decided to make an example of someone, who has as much sympathy as JV, does not understand the workings of the Higher Power.
The same could be said of the advisors to Gen MAL who suggested setting fire to St. Patrick Cathedral in Banmaw, northern Kachin State, Burma. They did it on the eve of the feast of St. Patrick. What were they thinking?
Heavy handed actions do not sit well! They lead people, like me, to start vigils.
SoW, I’m sure you’ve heard that Bishop Mark Seitz of El Paso, TX, is calling on “all people of faith & everyone committed to the common good" to gather March 24 at 6 p.m. at San Jacinto Plaza for a vigil to bear witness to their opposition to mass deportation. It’s during the feast of St. Óscar Romero, who was gunned down in 1980 while he presided over mass in San Salvador.
He is known for his statement, ““The word of God is like the light of the sun. It illuminates beautiful things, but also things which we would rather not see.”
Please be mindful that all eyes are on you & we’d like to see beauty.
BYBS,
