My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
It looks like you had a fun meeting with EJMFM yesterday. You got some of your facts mixed up & he was able to set things straight. You took it with a smile! I love that you showed some humility.
SoW, have you ever read the I Ching? Written in 9th Century BC, it provides guidance to rulers. You can think of it as philosophical taxonomy of the universe & instructions for an ethical life. I use it to remind myself to set my ego aside & recognize that God is Change. The version that I consult each day is inspired by Buddhism & uses the words The Creative & The Sage to describe our “better selves.” I take those to be the God that I believe to be in each of us.
SoW, did I ever share with you my thoughts on Magical Moments, when some synchronic events appear to be controlled by a higher power? If you are attuned to them, they can invigorate & uplift you. I’ve had two recently which are helping me get through the chaos being reported in the news these days.
One happened on Sunday when my young friend texted me, just as I’d been thinking I needed to reach out to her. We plan to do a podcast unpacking the Halftime show at the Superbowl from a young Black women’s & an old white lady’s perspectives. It’s going to be great!
I had another magical moment today. As you will recall my latest mantra is “Creativity will set you free” & I am excited to explore the creativity manifesto set out in “Blessed are the Weird” which should arrive any day now. Today, when I looked up the woman I will be meeting at Words Take Wing, a special event sponsored by UCD where kids from around the region come to campus to hear an author explain their writing process, I found she has recently completed a book about creativity where she describes how “Women across the globe have crafted beauty & order amid chaos, war, & deprivation.” She makes the case that by “persevering through pushback from within & without, we can keep making art that heals human suffering, transmits truth, & confronts the oppressor.” I can’t wait to meet her.
In the spirit of embracing the idea that transmitting truth is essential when confronting oppressors, let’s restore USAID funding to journalists in Burma so they can continue to report on the atrocities committed by the junta. I know how concerned you are about “fraud, waste & abuse” & the best way to eradicate those evils is by shining a light on them.
BYBS,
