Happy New Year!

On this first day of 2025, we are not resolving in our house. We’ll just maintain our curiosity about the unexpected changes always lurking on the horizon, while doing our best to navigate those we can anticipate.

            The expected changes in 2025 include:

1)    a different POTUS in the WH

2)    different work commitments (sabbatical in winter, retirement in summer)

In preparation for the POTUS transition, I’m ready to continue my practice of the daily letters enhanced by learning about the I Ching, to enable me to maintain my peace of mind. Regarding my employment, I am open to what might come next, looking forward to continuing to learn with & from children.

            Regarding those unexpected changes, I am priming myself both physically & mentally by trying to get stronger, more supple & have more endurance. ASL has emerged as a possible avenue to explore.

Thanks for calling NOLA Mayor LaToya Cantrell to see how you could help. It seems that NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick (AK) has things under control. Were you as surprised as I was to see AK? The oversized police hat she was wearing at the press conference today looked like a costume that she had put on to entertain her grandkids. I wonder if her success as a police officer comes from her status as an outsider who can get away with questioning the old boy culture that prevails in too many police departments. According to WDSU6, “due to her open and transparent style of leadership, AK has seen 16 officers who left the department return after seeing the ‘culture’ change that has been made under her leadership.”

            I wonder if her approach to revamping the department is consistent with today’s HX (57) which suggests that a root grows deeply to upthrust rocks as gentle small efforts take hold firmly & move the earth.

            Speaking of moving the earth, the Irrawaddy reminds us that China is plundering Burma’s rare earth resource & in doing so threatens global security. Let’s do what we can to put the Kachin in charge of the land they live on, influence the miners to be gentler in their extraction processes & use them judiciously
