            Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Our outing today will be to the Chalk It Up Festival where artist draw on sidewalks to the sounds of bands & vocalists. Don’t you love living in the city where stuff like that happens all the time?

I had some fun yesterday in Mr G’s 4th grade classroom. He’s in a new school & while it’s only 1 mile from his old one, it’s a world apart. At today’s school, Heron, everyone stood for the Pledge of Allegiance. The American Dream resonates in this part of town where immigrants from India, Pakistan, China, Russia & Ukraine are buying brand new houses. Just a few blocks away at Hight, living in America is more of a nightmare, where slavery & Jim Crow continue to haunt the residents, so the kids stay in their seats when “I pledge…” comes on the loudspeaker.

I wonder if Blas Nuñez-Neto (BNN)’s 5th grade classmates were more like the ones at Hight or Heron. I read in the WP today that when he was 11, he met Sandra Day O’Connor, after writing a winning essay contest. He wrote “Nobody is perfect, but everyone is special. I could be more special by encouraging people & never saying bad words.”

I’m so glad to have a guy like that crafting our immigration policies. According to BHO’s guy, BNN is “brilliant, his experience & knowledge are astronomical… (& he’s) capable of explaining policy to Spanish-language media and speaking directly to Latin American officials. The WP says he’s figure out the “political calculus that while most Americans remain favorably disposed toward immigrants, few things erode the welcoming spirit faster than an out-of-control border.”

If you need more convincing that things in Burma are bad, take a look at the piece in CNN today about how Burma’s “poorest are so desperate they’re turning to social media to sell their kidneys.” Let’s do more to help them!

As you begin to campaign for KDH, please echo N Kristof’s points in his piece “Here’s Why We Shouldn’t Demean Trump Voters.”
