How was your conversation with President To Lam (TL)? What did you tell Rep Michelle Steel (CA-45) regarding her request you not meet with him due to his human rights record?
Did you speak with TL about how Vietnam could help the Burmese people find their way to peace?
I wish we knew more about how peace happens. How do people begin to trust one another once the shooting stops? Do the old soldiers all have to die?
My grandpa maintained a visceral hatred for the Japanese after his service in the Pacific during WWII. We didn’t give him gifts made in Japan, because he’d throw them away. He never got over his loathing & it ate away at him. Are the people of Ukraine, Sudan, Burma, Gaza & Lebanon developing this level of contempt for their attackers? How do we heal, forgive & move on?
Do you think it’s wise to fuel VOZ’s narrative that he can “force Russia into peace?” Apparently, he’s got some kind of “Victory Plan” that he’s going to try to sell to you today. Please remember WINTA!
Also tell him to stay away from our munitions factories! A photo of his visit to the one in Scranton, PA looked to me like a guy going to a car dealership to fondle his dream machine. Coveting the instruments of war fuels violence – don’t you think?
I see on your schedule that you will be signing an executive order related to guns which includes information for schools regarding active shooter drills to minimize trauma resulting from poorly implemented drills. I hope that helps.
On a happier note, the kids in Burma are dealing with their anger by innovating with electronic music in Yangon’s underground clubs. According to Bandcamp, since they can’t do anything about the war or coup, they make techno. One guy said, “We’re not allowed to be happy or sad. Look at what’s going on; if you’re happy, that’s weird. I think that’s our identity; that contradiction. That polarity. That’s Burmese.”
