My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            Capitol Corridor 529 is late again! Somewhere between Auburn & Sacto it gets slowed down. No biggie for me, but not great for commuters trying to get to work on time. Oh well, world not perfect.

            As I waited for the train, I got a chance to practice Nick Epley’s recommendation to talk to strangers. One lady approached me to confirm that the train was late. We ended up talking about math teaching. She surprised me by telling me her daughter’s experience had been “smooth” without the anxiety she, herself, had experienced learning math in India. The other conversation was about a yogi’s balancing postures which she did while holding her bike in one hand & her book in the other.

            I am going to my last SOE retreat today & you are going to your last UNGA. I have to admit, my heart sank when I read about Sec Gen António Guterres saying humanity is “edging towards the unimaginable – a powder keg that risks engulfing the world?” That comment does not breed optimism.

            The G reports that “Russia was left badly isolated at a high-profile UN summit in New York when it made a surprise move to derail an ambitious pact designed to revive the UN – & failed.” They called VVP’s move  “diplomatically clumsy” angering “speakers from the African Union (AU) & Mexico, (with) only limited support, notably from Belarus, Venezuela, Syria & Iran.” Oh well, world not perfect.

            Bibi needs to hear that! We both know he is delusional if he really thinks he can eliminate Hamas & Hezbollah. I suspect he’s just trying to save his bacon by diverting attention away from his transgressions.

            Please talk to the folks at the UN about Burma & the junta’s latest crime of executing two anti-coup activists & their plans to execute five more today.
