My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
I’m so sorry that you are suffering from Covid while folks are losing confidence in your ability to win this election. My heart goes out to you.
I understand that Bibi’s visit to DC next week may have some bearing on your decision on how to proceed. I suggest your personal relationship with him should not be a consideration regarding the timing of your announcement. You WILL be announcing your change of heart, won’t you?
Your usual allies are not coming forward to support your candidacy. I’m sorry you are seeing this as betrayal. My new co-mom (my daughter’s spouse’s mother) likens your situation to when offspring take the car keys from the parent who is no longer safe behind wheel. It needs to be done, but no one is happy about it.
Is CNN correct when it speculates that KMH will be taking your place at the top of the ticket? They claim that “exhaustion is gelling into consensus” & suggest that folks are impressed with “how the vice president has handled these weeks of Democratic crisis.” They also point out “unleashing an open process at the convention would be a mess, prolonging the party’s drama.” This analysis resonates with me.
Whatever may be happening in the campaign, you will be POTUS for several more months & I hope you continue to closely monitor the situation in Burma. Today the media is disseminating info from a report that 170 schools there have been bombed. Destroying children’s classrooms robs them of an understanding of the complexity of the world. It prevents them from recognizing the vast knowledge we have accumulated over human history & the ways power is amassed & wielded. The youth of Burma have no hope of peaceful coexistence without honing their abilities to reason, reflect & innovate.
My daughter tied the knot with her soulmate today. It was a wonderful occasion & made me grateful that we have our National Park system. Menu Falls at Zion NP It was the perfect venue.
