My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

It’s my husband’s birthday today. He’s 65. He’s starting his day with blueberry pancakes. The party will continue tomorrow with chocolate/strawberry cake. As he would say, “he’s living large.”

In case you were wondering, that use of “large” goes back to the Latin, “largus,” which, when used to describe on object, meant “abundant, plentiful, bountiful,” but when used to describe a person meant “generous, liberal in giving.” Either way, it’s a good thing. He’s in much better shape than he was 3 birthdays ago, when he barely celebrated. Time heals.

SPOW, do you think time can heal the planet? I hope so.

The lawsuit that was just settled in Hawaii is a step in the right direction. According to CBS, 13 youth “accused the HI Department of Transportation of consistently prioritizing building highways over other types of transportation.” The settlement includes increasing access to public transport & pathways for pedestrians & bikes & establishing a youth council to advise the department.

Please invite 16-year-old plaintiff Rylee Brooke K. & her buds to the WH to celebrate & encourage more kids to make their voices heard.

Speaking of youth, I continue to be worried about young folks in Burma who are in hiding to avoid being conscripted into the military. Today’s AJ reports that “Rohingya & ethnic Rakhine see dreams of education & work disappear as conflict escalates in the long-troubled state.” It’s such an incredible waste. Please see what you can do.

            BYBS,
