I hope your visit to Baltimore goes well. Seeing all those containers on the Dali that crashed into the Key Birdge made me once again wonder if our consumer culture has gotten out of control. Can we live with less?
How do you feel about your call with Bibi? The NYT says it was “tense.” How many people were listening in besides Sec AJB & VP KDH? Who did most of the talking?
It sounds like you made a tiny bit of progress in getting Bibi to allow some aid into Gaza. I am disappointed that I didn’t hear anything about stopping the flow of weapons.
Did you hear that Salima Suswell is spreading the news about your comment about Jill at your Ramadan dinner on Tues? According to the NYT, she heard you say the first lady has been urging you to “Stop it, stop it now.” We will all be relieved when you have the courage to do so.
As you do, you can start educating the country about our over dependence on our profits from the “defense industry.” Selling weapons to the world is not in our best interest. It’s not making the world a better place!
Just imagine what Greece could do with the $700 million they plan to spend on the 35 Blackhawk helicopters they just decided to buy. Not too long ago, they were totally broke! Shouldn’t they be spending their $ on something else?
Speaking of Greece, I was surprised to see His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros representing his government at the celebration of Greek Independence Day yesterday. How do you feel about a nation where “the Orthodox Church has a special constitutional status as the “prevailing religion” of the country & receives government subsidies?
Did you hear about the recent report from the US Institute of Peace, which says Burma has geo-strategic importance to China as an unfettered access point to the Indian Ocean? XJ will use his influence to make things happen there. Please keep your eyes on the situation.
