My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

Today’s Hexagram, 27, is “thunder below the mountain” which somehow has to do with Nurturing & Nourishment. Translations indicate we should speak with caution as well as drink & eat with moderation. This kind of ambiguous message is so open to interpretation that it can be instructive to anyone at any time. In this case, thinking about what we consume, both materially & spiritually, is worth contemplation. Don’t you think?

            As you ponder your options of what to say, I appreciate your silence regarding the latest budget SNAFU. I hope it works itself out somehow.

            Speaking of SNAFUs, my neighbor spent one unnecessary night at UCD Medical Center because the TB people at the Sacramento County Public Health Office need to sign off on her release. Who knows why they haven’t done so yet, but she could be stuck in the hospital through Christmas if this doesn’t get cleared up.

            She sought my advice at 6 AM & as providence would have it, I was up & able to speak with her. I’m hoping that our conversation soothed her. Does that make me a soothsayer?

            Does my interest in the I Ching & divination make me one of those folks the Bible warned against? Am I becoming a witch? Now, now, now – I’m getting ahead of myself.

            Thanks for giving the federal workers a day off on Christmas Eve. It’ll be nice for them to get a break.

            I hope your visit to National Children’s Hospital brings some comfort to the families there. Is Jill going to read Twas the Night before Christmas again, or has she found a different book? The non-Christian families at the hospital might appreciate a secular option that celebrates this special time of year in the Northern Hemisphere.. May I suggest, Winter Solstice Wish, that combines scientific concepts with the intangible longing for connection & togetherness that people all over the world reach for on the shortest day?

            As usual please be considerate of the situation in Burma & all the other places in the world where power is being misused.
