My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
Do you have some bad puns planned for today’s event when you will supply “a morsel of mercy”, “garnish your speech with dad jokes” & “strut out a few zingers?” Those witty quotes are from a PBS segment that aired a couple of years ago when Chocolate & Chip visited the WH.
I look forward to hearing the banter about Peach & Blossom who will be accompanied by ATF Pres. J. Zimmerman & his son, Grant. It looks like the weather should be ok.
Speaking of pardons, Marc A. Thiessen opines in today’s WP that you should pardon 45. I couldn’t read the whole article because my stomach gets queasy when I read about the allegations against 45, especially related to his treatment of women. I am preferring to ignore him for as long as I can.
You don’t have that luxury so please read Gloria Oladipo’s piece in the G today where she lays out the 5 things you need to do before you exit 1600 Penn Ave. The 2 immediate actions to put on your DO NOW list are 1) staff up the Passport Office at the State Dep so folks who want to change their gender identity can do so before “sex” is defined as “assigned at birth.” 2) Close the Baker County Detention facility in FL to slow down the incarceration of undocumented folk. U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost visited there last week & described it as having inhumane conditions for immigration detainees. Show some mercy on the those locked up there.
Please get updated on the situation of the Rohingya in the refugee camps in Bangladesh. According to Reuters, desperate young men are being recruited to fight in Myanmar. Some end up in the junta, while others fight in the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) & the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). Their prospects in the camps are bleak so small enticements lead them to join up. They’d like a place to call home. Is that too much to ask?
BYBS,
