My dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
Make sure to look at Fox’s story about you & Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, (FL, 13). It’s surprisingly complimentary! She expressed appreciation for your phone call last week about what her constituents needed & how she fared in the storm. She said, "I have obviously been very critical of President Biden in the past, but I will say that him stepping in & taking control of the situation to assist for the right reasons was very honestly kind of shocking for me." Her response buoyed my faith that we ALL have that Divine Spark.
What did you DO for Indigenous People’s Day? I saw that you made a proclamation, but I didn’t see you participating in any activities. You could have at least gone over to the National Museum of the American Indian to look at Unbound: Narrative Art of the Plains their latest exhibit that “juxtaposes historical hides, muslins, & ledger books with contemporary works.” Sounds fascinating!
I’m not trying to shame you. In fact, I was negligent, myself. To remedy that oversight, this AM I looked up the Choctaw Nation in LA, because I have a doctoral student enrolled in that tribe. I learned that the Jean Charles Choctaw Nation consider themselves to be the first climate refugees. Storms, rising seas & erosion have whittled away 98% of Isle de Jean Charles since the 1950s. Their culture is threatened because tribal members are dispersing.
To make matters more painful, we, meaning the federal government, provided incentives for the Choctaw to leave the island, but now white fishermen are being allowed to build on it. Please look into this situation & prevent more harm.
Likewise, please monitor the situation in Burma. Today’s news indicates that “the Kachin Independence Army & its allies seized Border Guard Force Battalion 1002 headquarters in Pangwa near the Chinese border.” That’s the part of the country with rare earth mining. Let’s hope that XJ keeps his troops out of the conflict.
BYBS,
RCA
