Did you hear that an American snuck into North Korea? What’s up with that?
Did you get a big smile out of E. Robinson’s op-ed in the WP? “If I were President Biden, I’d want to frame last week & put it in a museum. Both abroad & at home, he made a powerful case for reelection.” What a great intro!
Have you heard that Sen Resolution 20 passed the Foreign Relations Committee? After it’s resolved with H. Res 86 & passes both houses, it’ll be at your desk. I hope you are ready to “empower & provide assistance to the National Unity Government … & other entities promoting democracy in Burma through nonviolent efforts, including channeling aid through local civil society organizations along the Thai & Indian borders that are not controlled by the junta.” That will be so helpful!
Why are you meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog (IH) today? He’s just a ceremonial leader so I’m surprised you are spending time with him. While he may be better than Bibi, Peter Beinart, opines in today’s G that he’s an ethnonationalist, “who has made Jewish supremacy the guiding principle of his political career.”
Please remind him of TJ’s famous words about minority rights.
“All . . . will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect & to violate would be oppression.”
What do you think of the protests over Bibi’s attempt to weaken the judiciary system? I’m sure you know that military reservist pilots are among the demonstrators & they say if Bibi’s law goes through, they’re withdrawing from duty. Can Bibi afford that?
My Jewish friends are appalled by the whole thing! The Israelis in our co-housing group are considering moving out of Tel Aviv & making Sacto their year-round home.
Whatever you do, don’t sell Israel any more weapons! They have enough.
