My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
It’s my sister’s 66th birthday, King Charles 3’s (KC3) coronation & the Kentucky Derby (KD). Wow!
I am not big on pomp, circumstance & expensive celebrations so I am sending my sister a card & giving her a call. I am more drawn to the #NotMyKing folk than the adoring fans chasing after the KC3’s carriage.
Angel of Empire (AoE)! Isn’t it funny that’s the name of the favorite in the KD? I love that kind of synchronicity & if I were a betting person, I’d put some $$ down on AoE.
I may have to tune in to the KD, but just to humor my friend, Judy, who loves it so much that she used to run a long electrical cord down the sidewalk & set up her TV in our local park so the kids in the neighborhood could watch it with her. Judy’s apartment is full of treasures, so many that you can’t maneuver in it, so she rarely lets anyone inside. She’s a brilliant, complicated person who knows the name of every dog in the neighborhood. I hope you get to meet her someday.
Do you think the days of the monarchy are numbered? What’s your impression of KC3? I’m not sure he is politically astute. I like his commitment to being a defender of faiths & the environment, but I question whether he has the capacity to uphold the UK democracy & protect it from the tyranny of overreaching politicians. I am grateful that you eschewed today’s ceremonies but wish you would say more about the inherent equality of all people.
As you champion the idea that we are all “endowed by (our) Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty & the pursuit of Happiness,” please put in a plug for the Rohingya to become citizens in their homeland.
BYBS,
