My dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
This message will be brief. Daylight saving time has put my schedule out of whack.
I continue to ponder your budget, as do reporters at the G & WP. They speak my mind when they write, “Pentagon budget stirs anger;” “riling progressives on crime and immigration.” I am particularly concerned by the creation of a new $4.7bn contingency fund to assist the Department of Homeland Security with “responding to migration surges along the southwest border”. I am somewhat encouraged by the observation that, “getting things done is the best medicine for division in a political party. And no one can say that this president hasn’t gotten things done.”
I continue to keep a close eye on the news about Burma. Today’s piece from The International Crisis Group provided some insight in noting a discussion of “A Silent Sangha? Buddhist Monks in Post-coup Myanmar.” It included the idea that we are seeing “a break from the past, when monks played a significant and vocal role at moments of political crisis (making) room for youth – particularly young women – to take on prominent roles in the struggle.”
I have to spend some time entertaining the foster puppies before I go to Meeting, so I have to cut this short.
BYBS,
