My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            I am grateful that some hostages are heading home & that the people of Gaza have a respite from bombs. Thanks for your role in achieving this cease-fire.

            I am disturbed that China is exercising its troops on the Burma border, flexing its muscles after some Chinese cargo trucks went up in flames near Manghai, Manling & Qingshuihe villages. Displays of military force do not help people feel safe.

            I noticed that you purchased “Democracy Awakening” by Heather Cox Richardson. Do you read her newsletter? I do, sometimes, but find the tone & the length off-putting. I admire her productivity & appreciate her knack for demonstrating the rhyme between today’s events & those of the Civil War period. She gives me hope that “this too shall pass.”

            Now that you have done your shopping, what do you have planned for the day? We will ride downtown for a jaunt to the Davis Farmer’s Market & lunch with our triad of fellow grad students. 25-years ago we were part of a movement to reform math teaching in the classrooms of America so students would be empowered to understand math, becoming confident in being able to use it to make their worlds a better place. We have created points of light in our own small spheres & are still waiting for major transformation.
