My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            Here’s a thought from TNH to contemplate: A human is like a TV with millions of channels. Turn on Buddha, you are Buddha. Turn on sorrow, you are sorrow. Control the clicker to “recover your sovereignty.”

            How did things go with EU folks, Charles & Ursula (UvdL), at the WH yesterday? Unfortunately, your meeting didn’t get much press. I was happy to hear you talking about “standing together.” I was confused by the term, “de-risking” regarding trade with China & was worried by the declaration to “stand together now to support Israel.” Might it be considered unsupportive of Arab people, especially Palestinians? I’m sure you heard that 800 of UvdL’s staff signed a letter urging her to call for a ceasefire. I like that idea.

            Speaking of hostages, I hope you’ve heard of Vivian Silver. She’s the 74-year-old who is now missing after her kibbutz was raided. According to TIME, “she is known among activists in Israel & abroad for her never-ending energy, commitment, & creative efforts to promote peace with Palestinians & equality between Jews & Arabs within Israel.” On Oct 4, she participated in an event, the “Mother’s Call” where Palestinian & Israeli women voiced their concern for the fate of their children as well as the need for reconciliation & a non-violent resolution to the conflict. Her son says, “war is absurd.” I agree!

            As you ponder how to proceed, please consult with Yael Admi & Reem Hajajri, women leaders from both sides. They can be the angels on your shoulder to counteract Bibi’s devilish rhetoric.

            Given that violence plagues so many parts of the world, it’s time for your administration to have an office to advance the UN’s Women, Peace & Security agenda. In addition to thinking in new ways about Ukraine & Gaza, it can also help you think about Burma & how to get local women involved in all aspects of the peace building process there.
