MDFP, JRB,
Are you sure you need to go to Atlanta today? I am asking because a new report from the Rhodium Group suggests we are going in the wrong direction when it comes to carbon emissions. Despite all of our promises to cut them, last year they went up by 6% due to surges in coal and long-haul trucking.
As you know, many of the GA voting rights activists are boycotting your visit. They say they’d like “concrete action” rather than “empty gestures.” They believe the visit is a rhetorical exercise & a photo-op. They have a strong sense of urgency for a “meaningful plan of action.” Ian Bassin, executive director of Protect Democracy, said it best, “When you’re diagnosed with cancer, you don’t wait a year to start treatment… there’s still time, but the president better be bringing a plan for chemo and radiation to Atlanta, because time is running out.”
Stacy Abrahms has a conflict so she won’t be at your events either. In addition, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution they are having a “collective hangover” in GA after the Dawgs beat the Crimson Tide last night. So why not be gentle on the climate & stay in DC to convince JM3 & KLS to suspend the filibuster for this particular vote?
Please look into the allegations that 1,600 tons of Burmese timber reached the US between 2/21 & 11/21. Proceeds from the sale of that teak go to the Tatmadaw who just sentenced Aung San Suu Kyi to 4 more years in prison. They continue to move in the wrong direction so we need to be vigilant about our economic sanctions.
I love your recent quote, “Will we choose democracy over autocracy, light over shadow, justice over injustice? I know where I stand. I will not yield. I will not flinch.” Keep up the good work!
BYBS,
