My Dear Friends & POTUS, JRB,
I was disturbed to learn that 2 guys were arrested for plotting to kill Kyaw Moe Thun, UN Ambassador of the NUG of Burma. They had been hired by an arms dealer in Thailand to tamper with his car. Fortunately, they were amateurs. Please make sure he is protected & can stay in the USA.
I am out of my usual routine today. I decided that I shouldn’t swim because the air quality is not good due to smoke. I have been noticing some throat irritation lately so I am being protective of my lungs. Reading Nestor’s book, “Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art” also has me wondering about my respiratory system. Since my dad died from scarring of his alveoli, I am hypersensitive to this issue. I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of weeks to discuss. In the meantime, I’ve got all of the windows closed & am looking forward to this afternoon when the Delta breeze is supposed to kick up & clear out this smoke.
I was relieved to read in the CSM this morning about the Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus which is making sure that wildfire prevention is included in the Infrastructure Bill. Speaking of which, the AP says that the Senate is “edging” toward passing it. All eyes are on AMM today. Have you spoken with him lately?
Did you see the NYT feature on the kids who didn’t show up for kindergarten last year? Fall enrollment for 2020 was down 9.3%. It’ll be interesting to see if that cohort of kids shows up for 1st grade, or if their parents have decided that school is just not working for them. Perhaps this exodus will prompt a radical reform of school to make them more hospitable to BIPOC folk. That would be wonderful – don’t you think?
When are you going to mass this weekend? I will have 2 Meetings for Worship. One tonight with Yangon Friends & 1 tomorrow with Davis Friends (DFM). You are welcome to join either one. We also have Meeting for Business with DFM & I am recording clerk so it’ll be a busy day for me.
