My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            This is just going to be a quickie – I want to get out to my garden before it gets too hot today.

            Do you agree with Jeanette Winterson that men want to discard the planet & head off into space? I’m afraid she might be right. Jeff Bezos took his 10-minute space trip last week. We’re spending way too much money on the Artemis program to put people back onto the moon. The Chinese are busy creating a lunar research station & we are sending the Starliner spacecraft up on Friday.

            Some people call all of this space stuff “astropolitics” & claim that it’s about the “prestige benefits of space leadership.” I call it a big waste of $$ & a jobs program to prop up Boeing. As David Bowie says “floating in a tin can” is “odd.”

            I was disappointed to see that you appointed a male space tourist to lead NASA rather than a woman. A female would be less inclined to play the one-ups-manship game & might make decisions that were healthy for the planet rather than just to show off.

            Sorry to rant. It’s just that we should be investing in stopping climate change rather than contributing to it by blasting off rockets to the moon. Don’t you think?

            I’m afraid the Sacto heat is getting to me. Clearly, I need to meditate in my garden.
