My dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            I am confused about China. It’s got 18% of the people on the planet living in the best place on the planet to grow food. Their civilization is ancient. They’ve got a cool wall. Why can’t we be friends with them? It would be best for the planet if we could all calm down & stop worrying about whether or not they are going to try to win back Taiwan.

            I am thinking about China this morning because I saw that the Senate is about to pass a bill aimed at decoupling the US & Chinese economies by subsidizing the manufacture of semiconductors and fostering research & development. While I love a bipartisan bill, isn’t it just creating a bunch of tax loopholes which crafty folks like Jeff Bezos (JB) will jump through & end up even richer than they already are?

I understand that some of the $$ could go to JB’s Blue Origin space company, which, incidentally will be sending JB & his brother up to the  the Kármán line for a quick look-see back at Earth. He says the voyage will be transformational because in his words, “It changes your relationship with this planet, with humanity.” If that’s true, perhaps you & XJ could blast off in the New Shepard together & end this dangerous rivalry between China & the US.

            If you do, I hope you will buy some carbon offsets. All of this rocket activity cannot be good for the planet. Even if you don’t fly up in a rocket, you should get some carbon offsets for all of the airplane travel you’ve been doing lately.

            Please give my regards to Jen Stoltenberg today & in addition to talking about the NATO troop drawdown in Afghanistan, you talk about strategies for reducing the world’s population so we can stop fighting for resources.
