My Dear Friend & POTUS , JRB,
Sorry that I missed our letter yesterday. I wish I could say that I was too busy with Juneteenth festivities, but in truth, I was too hot. Well, that’s not quite right either. I was in the garden first thing to beat the heat transplanting some corn seedlings in danger of overgrowing their newspaper pots. I am excited to see if my experiment in popcorn-growing works.
I am speed writing this letter because I have my Yangon Friends Meeting in a few minutes. We alternate meeting times so people in various hemispheres can join us. We have Friends in England, Poland, Jordan, Japan and New Zealand as well as the USA. We are occasionally joined by a couple of folks still in Yangon. It’s always a relief when we see them on screen, followed by sorrow to hear how challenging their daily lives are.
We would love to have you join us. Perhaps you will become a convinced Friend. It might be a welcome change from the politics of the Catholic Church, which lately has taken such a bizarre turn. Perhaps you don’t consider it bizarre, but I find it hard to fathom how a group that forgives child molesters, will withhold communion from you because of your stance on abortion. I’m glad the Pope is on your side.
The Quakers won’t tell you what to think or believe. We won’t withhold rituals from you because we don’t have any. We tend not to shun people since we believe that everyone has that of God in him. It’s the most democratic religion of them all. We don’t have a hierarchy. We are all equals. Being silent for an hour is hard for some, but the scientists say that quieting your mind is good for you.
So, here’s the link: XXX. Next week it will be at 10:00 PM (EST) on Saturday, June 26 so if you wanted, you could go to your 4:00 mass & then come to our Meeting before bed. We’d be happy to have you stop by even for a few minutes. You can “tip toe” in if you are late & sneak out if you need to leave early. We are expecting you.
BYBS,
RCA
