Dear JRB,
How was your visit to Windsor Castle yesterday? Did you speak with QE2 about Burma? Since British colonial rule is part of the reason that Burma is so dysfunctional right now, I would hope that she would take an interest.
Castle, palace? What’s the difference? Why does one royal family need both? Why does the royal guard wear those big old unwieldy hats? After all, they have the latest automatic rifles, so they might as well have the latest helmets. I wonder if they spend as much time practicing shooting as they do practicing being in straight lines on the parade grounds.
Were you emotional when the band played the US National Anthem? I couldn’t tell because you were hiding behind your aviator glasses. I was surprised that you didn’t stop to chat with any of the guardsmen as you inspected them as Barack & Prince Charles have done in the past. Perhaps you were eager to have the whole thing over with.
I wonder if QE2 liked your comment that she reminded you of your mom. She’s a head of state & probably would appreciate hearing that she reminds you of some strong political figure. She’s supposed to be tough, not sweet. I think she carries that purse around so she can hit people with it in case they get out of line.
Speaking of tough women, what was your impression of Estonia PM, Kaja Kallas (KK)? Did you know that both the president & prime minister of Estonia are women? KK was assigned the post in Jan, so she’s a newbie. I’m sure she & her Baltic buddies were thrilled to hear that you are in favor of NATO’s article 5.
I’m disappointed that only 5 of the 30 Heads of Government in NATO are women. Maybe KDH will go someday.
When you meet with His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan please thank him for housing 4 million Syrian refugees before you scold him for his human rights abuses, especially against women.
