My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            How exciting to get the census results!!! I find it heartening to know that the we have had the 2nd lowest growth rate in the nation’s history. Perhaps by 2030 we will have a growth rate of ZERO. Mother Earth would appreciate that. She has plenty of humans in her care & so many of them suffer from scarcity. We can work on redistributing our resources to end poverty in places like Guatemala, & the Congo & then, perhaps, we will have a calmer political situation as well as a calmer climate.

            As you well know, this census means that 7 House seats will change states. CA is losing a seat for the first time ever so we’re going to have draw new Congressional districts. The Billings Gazette reports that MT has regained the seat that they lost in 1990 & now has a population of 1,084,225 having grown 9.6% over the last decade. They are speculating that the state will be split East/West as it was in the past. All this counting & math makes me giddy.

            I’m troubled by the news that the Karen National Union has seized a Tatmadaw post near the Salawin National Forest. While I am no fan of the junta, WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER! This means families have to flee, crossing the river into Thailand & will end up living in refugee camps. My friend is heading over there to scout out locations for new camps & I’m afraid he’ll be in danger. The video that I saw at the Guardian site reminded me of the footage of the Vietnam War that I grew up seeing on the nightly news. I hope that level of violence can be avoided.
