My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
Another interesting day at the WH for you. Commemorating the 50 millionth vaccination will be a joyous occasion. I got my 1st vax yesterday at UCD Health Center. They have the capacity to process about 5000 people a day, but are not operating at that capacity given the limited vax supply. Even though my appointment got mixed up, they accommodated me. I guess they had defrosted their doses & were hell bent on putting them into arms. I celebrated by taking a nap.
It’s too bad that distributing the vax in an equitable & orderly manner has turned into such a nightmare. The NYT has a fascinating info graphic to represent this dynamic for every county in the US. Take a look. It’s fascinating.
Speaking of stats, the Urban League of Kansas City (ULKC) uses them to generate the Black KC Equality Index. It got my attention today, because the KCS featured an article about the ULKC’s new Black Bus commemorating Black History. While the Black community is not equal to the White community on a host of economic measures, they do exceed the White community in Civic Engagement & Labor Force Participation. It’s exciting to see that the ULKC is making a difference by getting folks out to vote & keeping them in the labor force.
Other good news of the day: 1) Williamsburg has discovered a building that was originally a school for free & enslaved Black children which operated in pre-Revolutionary days. While it had the goal of using Christianity to subjugate the kiddos, access to print gave those young folk access to all kinds of info so the White folks eventually shut it down. As the article in the WP pointed out, once oppressed folks can read the Bible, they can read the Exodus story which fuels their dreams of emancipation. 2) Speaking of oppressed folks, the Burmese will no longer be subject to the falsehoods and threats of the military coming through Facebook. Mark Z. has shut down the generals’ accounts. Yeah!
BYBS,
