My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,
Thanks for your WH statement about Lent. I appreciate your reminder that this is a time for “repentance, reflection, and renewal.”
My renewal comes each day in the form of these letters. It’s part of a routine started in 1/27/17 to chase my demons away. At that time, the “former guy” was haunting me with his rhetoric about “Rocket Man.” I worried he might start a nuclear war. I endeavored to find a point of connection with him every day by consulting his schedule & keeping close track of the people he interacted with & the activities he engaged in. I managed to see that of God in him, although some days it was a challenge.
I hope my vigilance is helpful to you in some way, but even if it’s not, I will probably keep it up, because I have found that my daily routine helps keep me on an even keel. While DJT’s specter no longer frightens me, the pandemic & an ailing husband weigh on my psyche so I write as diversion & therapy. Over the years, I have found that I sometimes begin the morning at a loss for words & find some inspiration as I comb the news.
Today’s revelation came in the form of Jim McIngvale who you have probably heard about. He’s the guy in North Houston who has opened his 100,000 sq ft mattress store to 300 folks who were freezing in their houses. He’s got a bright smile & a positive attitude. He says that “when adversity hits, we come together.” In addition to a warm place to sleep, he’s supplying families with food & clothing. I think he feels particularly generous because he just won his $3.5 million bet on the Bucs to win the Superbowl. Of course, all of the positive publicity will help sales. Reading about him this AM made me smile.
I have a quick suggestion. This power problem makes it clear we should be investing in research on building a better battery. If every home in TX had something like Tesla’s Powerwall we wouldn’t be seeing all of this suffering. Please include that in your energy overhaul.
